Music

Ellis Michaels used to make music so loud it could make your neighbors move – or at least file noise complaints. Punk, metal, and rock were his playgrounds for decades, both in garage bands and on nationwide tours.
These days, he’s swapped distortion pedals for an acoustic guitar and a folk-punk, singer-songwriter style – but don’t think for a second he’s mellowed out. His latest acoustic EP, Psychoacoustic, trades in feedback for storytelling while keeping all the bite, wit, and raw energy of his past.

A multi-instrumentalist with more than three decades of experience, Ellis writes, performs, and records everything himself, blending sharp lyricism with a punk-rooted urgency that survives even when the amps are unplugged. Whether he’s behind a guitar, piano, or a drum kit, he approaches every project with the same mix of honesty, grit, and a healthy disrespect for the rules.
Based just south of Boston, Ellis has lived a few creative lives: novelist, music-related comedian, touring guitarist – and he shows no signs of slowing down. If anything, he’s just getting started… again.Â
Ellis Michaels also offers guitar, piano, bass, and drum lessons both online and in person. If you’re interested in taking music lessons from Ellis, you can learn more here: Music Lessons.Â
Personal Life

When Ellis isn’t doing something music related, he enjoys spending time with his son, going to the beach, spending time with friends and family, being out in nature, reading, and writing.
Ellis has also been living with a rare autoimmune/autoinflammatory illness called Behcet’s disease (aka Behcet’s syndrome). Diagnosed at the age of 16, the illness has cause multiple blood clots, hearing loss, partial blindness, and many other serious symptoms over the past several decades. But since his teens, Ellis has been determined to live his life to the fullest in spite of everything the disease throws at him.
In 2020, a memoir was published about Ellis Michaels’ journey living with this rare condition. It’s called Finding Happiness Through Pain and Embarrassment: My Life With Behcet’s Disease – A Memoir and can be found wherever books are sold in paperback, hardcover, eBook, and audiobook formats.Â
